Beginner Questions

I am unfit. Can I still start?

Yes. Most people start BJJ to get fit, not because they are already fit. You work at your own pace and your fitness improves as you train.

Am I too old to start BJJ?

No. We have members who started in their 30s, 40s and beyond. Classes are adapted so you can train safely.

What should I bring and wear to my first session?

For Gi classes everyone trains in a gi, and we’ll lend you one for your trial. For No-Gi, wear a comfortable T-shirt or workout top and leggings, shorts or flexible trousers. Bring a filled water bottle, flip-flops or slip-on sandals for on and off the mat, and a small bag for your things. Please remove jewellery, watches and heavy makeup, and keep nails short and clean. See our FAQ for the full list.

Will I be thrown into sparring?

No. Beginners classes focus on technique and drilling with a partner. You will be introduced to sparring gradually and only when you are ready.

How do I book?
