From age 4 in our Tots class. Kids 1 is for ages 6 to 8 and Kids 2 for ages 9 to 13.
What is the difference between Gi and No-Gi?
Gi classes use the traditional kimono and allow grips on the uniform. No-Gi is trained in a rash guard and shorts and is faster paced. We teach both.
What should I bring and wear to my first session?
What to wear
- Gi classes: everyone trains in a gi, and we’ll lend you one for your trial class, so you don’t need to buy one first.
- No-Gi classes: top: a comfortable T-shirt or workout top. Bottoms: leggings, shorts, or any flexible trousers that allow easy movement.
- For the mat: please bring a pair of flip-flops or slip-on sandals for quick and hygienic access on and off the mat area.
What to bring
- A filled water bottle to stay hydrated.
- A small gym bag or tote to keep your personal items together.
Before stepping on the mat
For safety and comfort, please make sure you:
- Remove all jewellery and watches.
- Remove any heavy makeup.
- Keep toenails and fingernails short and clean.
What do I wear once I am a member?
For Gi classes, any white gi is welcome. Black gis must be academy issued. For No-Gi, a rash guard and shorts without pockets or zips.
Do you have a ladies only class?
Yes, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 19:15 on Mat 2. Women are also welcome in all our mixed classes.
Are there contracts?
No long term contracts. We ask for 30 days' notice by email to cancel or pause.
How do I book classes?
Everyone, including kids, registers and books their classes through the MAAT app, then checks in on arrival at the academy.
Should I wear a gum shield?
We strongly recommend a good quality gum shield. For children, a self-moulding gum shield is best as it can be remoulded as they grow.
