IMPULSE BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
Welcome to Impulse Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!
We’re really happy to welcome your child to the Impulse BJJ community!
Our goal is to provide a safe, positive and structured environment where children can learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, build confidence, develop discipline and make great friendships along the way.
Please take a few minutes to read through this page as it contains important information about day-to-day life at the academy.
You can always return to this page using the link we have sent you!
Where to Park
When arriving at our facilities, please use the main car park. The signs mention that a permit is required, but don’t worry, you are welcome to park there while attending our classes.
Your Child's Classes Are Already Booked
You do not need to book your child's classes.
All students under 16 are pre-booked into their regular classes.
Your child's training days are allocated when they join, so there is no need to reserve a place before every session.
You only need to CHECK IN when you arrive.
Please Check In
When entering the academy, there is an iPad on the wall next to the reception desk.
Please check your child in before every class.
We keep track of attendance, and the number of classes attended forms part of our children's progression and grading system.
So even though your child's place is already booked, please remember to check them in every time they train.

Download our Coacha App
Parents can still download the Coacha app to keep up with academy news and announcements.
Rules Of The Mat
We want all of our students to learn good habits, discipline and respect from the beginning.
Please encourage your child to:
Arrive to class on time.
Bow towards the centre of the mat when entering or leaving.
Show respect to their coaches and training partners.
Listen while techniques are being demonstrated.
Keep talking to a minimum during instruction.
Use appropriate language.
Train safely and look after their partners.
Ask the coach before leaving the mat.
Remove jewellery, watches, earrings and other metal objects before training.
If your child arrives late, they should wait at the edge of the mat and speak to the instructor before joining the class.
Hygiene
Hygiene is extremely important in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Please make sure your child arrives clean and wears a fresh, clean Gi for every class.
Their Gi should be washed after every training session.
Fingernails and toenails should always be kept short and clean.
Please also make sure children do not arrive with pen, marker or ink on their hands or arms, as this can transfer onto our white mats.
If your child has a contagious skin condition or is unwell, please keep them away from training until they are safe to return.
Footwear
Please remember:
No shoes on the mats.
No bare feet on the carpet.
Shoes or flip-flops must be worn when going to the toilet.
This helps us keep our training environment as clean as possible.
Gi Rules
For Gi classes:
White Gis - Any brand is welcome.
Black Gis - Black Gis are only permitted if purchased from our academy — club issue only.
Children should also wear a rashguard underneath their Gi.
For Parents
Parents are very welcome to stay and watch their child train.
We enjoy having parents involved and allowing you to see your child's confidence, skills and understanding of Jiu Jitsu develop.
However, we kindly ask that parents do not coach, shout instructions or interact with their child from outside the mat while the class is running.
Even when the intention is to help, it can distract the child and make it difficult for our coaches to teach the class.
Please leave all technical instruction to the coaching team while your child is on the mat.
If this becomes a repeated issue, the head coach may ask the parent to wait outside during the class.
We would much rather parents stay and enjoy watching, so we really appreciate everyone's cooperation.
Learn How To Tie Your Gi Pants
Learning how to put on and look after their own uniform is an important part of becoming more independent at Jiu Jitsu.
Learn How To Tie Your Belt
Don't worry if your child struggles with this initially — they'll quickly get used to it and we are there to help!
Gum Shield
We strongly recommend the use of a good-quality gum shield.
A gum shield helps protect your child's teeth during training and sparring.
For children, we recommend a self-moulding gum shield because it can be remoulded as their teeth and mouth change while they grow.
Don't Leave Anything Behind
Before leaving the academy, please check that your child has collected all of their belongings.
Especially:
🥋 Gi
🩴 Shoes or sliders
💧 Water bottle
🦷 Gum shield
👕 ClothingAnything left behind may result in a very serious punishment...
BURPEES! 😄
30 burpees for the first item.
20 burpees per item for two or more items.
Items can only be collected once the dues are paid! 😂
Membership Changes
We don't operate using long-term contracts.
However, if you ever need to cancel or pause your child's membership, we ask that you provide us with 30 days' notice.
Please contact us directly if you need to make any change.
Thank you for chosing Impulse BJJ!
If you had a positive training experience, we would be thrilled if you could leave us a review. Your thoughts will help others find our community and start their own BJJ journey.

Thank You for Choosing Impulse BJJ!
We're excited to have your child as part of the academy and look forward to watching them progress.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a long journey and every child develops at their own pace.
The most important things are consistency, enjoying the process and continuing to learn.
